PaineWebber Strategist Farrel: Buy On Dips
Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Rather than be scared by volatile markets, PaineWebber's senior market strategist, Mary Farrell, believes that the dips prove to be a great time either to buy stocks or expand positions.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is a "great company," she told CNBC-TV in a Tuesday interview, and it is "absolutely" a good opportunity to buy, now that a judge's ruling has taken the stock ever closer to its year low.

The current Nasdaq slide is a "normal and healthy correction," she feels. Internet companies are having their valuations reconsidered, and rightly so, she thinks.

Internet companies are still "highly vulnerable," and Farrell cautioned investors to avoid them.

Invest in "what we do know," she said. Companies like Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) and Oracle Corp. (ORCL) represent sound investments in technology's future.

Farrell reminds investors that no other asset, over time, has delivered anything like the returns that common stocks have.
