Hope Greenspan was watching today- CBS Marketwatch had this headline on during the NASDAQ debacle: NASDAQ BUBBLE BURSTS!
Good to see some bulls are recognizing it for what it is... This bear is not only sneaky but mean. It is destroying assests while keeping most investors in. It seems intent on utterly destroying both the shorts and the longs.

>>My personal definition? 40 years or more (assuming one starts to earn and invest at age 25 or before and continue till retirement at 65 or after).<<

so, your "advice" is geared only toward 25 year olds that will never have to remove their cash from the market (home, car, cover unemployment, etc.) over the span of 40 years? ok, what about the other 99.7% of the population? -ng-

btw, wrt the index vs managed money issue - managed money returns include cash sitting on the sideline while index funds are near 100% invested. this can make be a substantial bogey for managed money.
