Brokers.. I only want 2 things, instant execution, and pampering, (i.e. special consideration and 'phone calls' after hours, a satellite broker in Boca that I can leave e-mails to in the middle of the night and get answered before morning). Someone who calls and asks 'How are things going?' You don't get that without some up front 'money'.. I have an Chase H&Q account but use it only so I don't keep everything under one roof and can get research papers and updates. I use Watley but more and more I've transferred a chunk of funds to Fidelity. I get IPO's when I want them although just 1 or 200. I have a credit card, checking account and a lot of attention because of the Fidelity Select Ultra service account. I have a very large account there and get consideration. My husband has a Datek account which I trade and its very fast, but impersonal and everyone is treated equal which is no phone calls because you can be on hold forever.

I used to open accounts to spread out the money, but it got nuts and I was holding lots of money in non-interest bearing accounts and getting nothing but free nasdaq level II and trades at $9.95. I'll most likely open an Executioner account as well because of the convenience but I like the Datek/Fidelity combination. Its like having a wife (comfort, faithful, trust and convenient) and a lover (exciting, personal pampering, privileged and expensive) all legal. When you are in a bad mood and need attention you might as well croak waiting for Datek, but Fidelity will answer your call on the second ring, really.
