Greg....

Thanks very much.

You said you play with half your money. Good to know. You're way more diverse than me. I am younger and I have no kids yet but...I am a certifiable ninkompoop, sheep, follower that has had the good fortune of investing at a time when the market has been kind to the lesser informed.

I got a $50K windfall four years back. With some I bought a house and the rest went into the market. I'm up about 10 fold on those two vehicles. I've got a 401K as well but that's small relatively. The long and short of all this is...my gut tells me I need to get more liquid. I've felt it for awhile. If we actually do run into earnings, that might be a good opportunity to take some moola off the table.

Over on LG's thread and at a few other places (the All Clowns Must Die Thread included), talk of today being the precursor to the real thing are being debated. 1929...1987...2000???

You were around in '87. Does this feel similar? We were down BIG today. We've been down big several times in the 4 years I've been in the market. I've had over a dozen margin calls but, just like today, market activity carries me out. If we have a down day like this, then enough flat or continued down days where I couldn't get out of a margin call, I'd be done.

Ramble ramble...blabbity blabbity blah...

I remember you said recently that beginners should not use margin. If that still holds true and I want to follow that advice...would you share some of that legendary mentor's advice with me?

I am:
10% GLW
15% ETEK
6% ELON
5% LHSP
64% QCOM

Where would you trim?

Would you wait for earnings?

Would you put in stop losses?

I know much of the decision making process has to do with my risk/reward needs. I am learning those better with each big move in the market. I do not want to learn Claptonsguitar's lesson, however.

As always...thanks for sharing all that you do.
