The only time I believe E*Trades balance calculations is right before the open. They might be right at other times, but just as likely they're not.

oh my! I just figured it out.. when you goto the account balances page you now get an OLD balance.. to get your REAL balance.. you have to click on
your account #.. that will log you to you what used to be the only account balance page.. and that will show you what you really have..
