I can guess a way. Say that the optical packets come in known time frames. Select the first bit based on time, If it is on during the time frame click your mirror to the left and let the whole packet flow that way, if it is off do the same to the left. A little electronic detection is required but not so much as to slow down the whole packet. Is this patented yet? If not I'll co-invent it with you.
