Since this thread is the nearest to a "social adjunct" to the G & K thread that exists, I have decided to post this here. However since this post is not particularly curmudgeonly and given the recent market turbulence some may be in an especially curmudgeonly mood, I would advise a quick click.

As my profile states, my involvement with the market is episodic. Part of the reason for this is that "lurq mode" is for me, a highly intensive, 25/8 activity. After a while, I just "burn out". In my previous episode, mid-June to early Nov '99, I had the good fortune to discover the G & K thread. What I learned there (and by studying TRFM) has transformed the way I approach my LTB&H portfolio.

Trying to "come up" with a "second act" to follow upon Q's performance of last year is no trivial task. The knowledge gleaned from the manual and the thread allows an understanding of "what happened" last year. Moreover, this knowledge has provided the framework for me to attempt to construct a "second act", my Millennium Portfolio (MP).

It has taken me most of the first quarter to achieve a first iteration of this investment task. With the purchases I made yesterday I feel comfortable heading into the remainder of what I expect to be an interesting (in the chinese sense) year. Although I still am a "sucker for a story" and picked up a little of a couple of pebbles, the monetary commitment was insignificant. The only exception to a GG approach has been a starter kit in LHSP - which I don't know how to categorize and refused to buy until after the Dragon deal. The remainder (and bulk) of the MP is a subset of the portfolios from the thread header.

I know of no adequate way of thanking the G & K participants for providing a "graduate seminar" in investing. My technique ( if that's not too pretentious a word for what I do) involves searching through mounds of gravel for a few flecks of gold. This prospector still has difficulty in believing his good fortune in finding "the mother load" - G & K.

My current market episode is now ending and I'll be leaving town for a little R&R in the spring-bloom sonoran desert. At this juncture, I know not when I'll return to the market and to a group that I both respect and treasure.

Not lurking...

Most men are generally impaired and make bad decisions due to high levels of testosterone including myself.
