Craig, I do not have the "history of the wiper", but I would not be surprised that the inventor filed the patent 10 years before it was granted and he might have been behind the stories. Furthermore, at that time, the auto industry used to take five years from the time they decided to get a new product in a car until they actually got it into production, and probably spent three years internally before that decision debating whether they will include it.
