Now here's quite a statement: But Penn State Coach Joe Paterno pulled out a piece of paper from his shirt pocket yesterday at the beginning of his news conference before the Blue-White game. On it were the national defensive rankings for his team over the past seven seasons. Paterno rattled off the numbers: 42nd in the nation in 1993, 70th in 1994, 50th in 1995, 41st in 1996, 86th in 1997, 12th in 1998 and 26th last season. "There's a reason for it, and I'm going to take the blame," Paterno said. "If we're going to be a better football team, we can't be 70th or 86th. We have to be around where we were two years ago. We have to be close to a top 10 defense." Wow, Joe - we all could have had a V-8! <g> BTW, I understand we won yesterday. Gary
