Fed likely to add reserves via overnight system RPs
NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve is likely to add temporary reserves to the banking system on Wednesday through overnight system repurchase agreements, analysts said.

``The Fed already has over $19.0 billion in long-term rps outstanding and has purchased $1.55 billion in coupons during this two-week bank reserve maintenance period that ends today,' said Dana Saporta, economist at Stone and McCarthy Research Associates.

But Saporta estimated that the Fed still needed to add $2.2 billion in reserves to the banking system on Wednesday.

Analysts said with Federal funds trading at six percent, the Fed's current target for the rate, the Fed's open market desk might also refrain from operations.
