My wife once met relatives of one of her secretaries, people who lived in the Italian section of Philadelphia, not so far from Atlantic City, who were compulsive gamblers, and laughed about things like losing their furniture during a bad streak. They went down to play ever chance they got. The husband told a story of being at the roulette table (his favorite game), and having a prostitute sidle up to him to solicit business. He brushed her off, and instead of swearing loyalty to his spouse, said to my wife:"She must have been crazy to bother me, I was playing roulette!" His wife whooped as much as he did: gambling was better than sex........
