When I started my MA as a thirty something student I thought it would be fun to attend a philosophy discussion group. The head of the department was a tweed coat, pipe smoking, pip. He had his view on something that he was throwing out to the group that night. Everyone was very accommodating. I posed an alternate view on the subject, wrongly thinking it would stimulate some people to challenge the ideas. You would have thought I slapped god or something.
