Petz,

You are right, releasing it before T-Bird would lower AMD's ASP because sales of the regular Athy would dry up.

Not if AMD limits Spitfire to 700 or 750 MHz.

This may be one case where AMD has to stockpile chips, eh?
Unless thunderbird is ready now too,,,

Re: Fortunately, it looks like Intel's higher speed Celeron release was another "stealth event,"

John,
I think you're wrong here. I think iNTC has dumpsters full of the crippled PeeWee III's. The OEM's don't want them. Remember, 500-600 Mhz is still the "sweetspot", or as I like to call it, where Intel can actually make parts in decent yields and binsplits.

How does an OEM place a 600 Mhz PeeWee III against a 600 Mhz crippled PeeWee III (especially when they are sitting on truckloads of the PeeWee III's). When they are able to liquidate low end Pentiums, they will start selling the crippled pentiums.

John Petzinger:

It's official now with the closes...Intel($130)/AMD($68) price ratio now less than 2 to 1...Where is Paul, anyway?

Wonder if AMD's Q1 eps will be greater than Intel's?
