Yesterday's recovery amounts to orchestrated plunge control. This allows the biggies to bring the prices back to near where they were so they can continue to sell down their own inventory without taking such a hit. They know we are heading into major liquidation and just want a fair chance to beat you to it. :-)

They get additional profit protection by, popping the stops, and selling all the margin accounts at armed robbery prices. They get to refill their own coffers knowing tomorrow the sell down will continue. They can sell all the way down, slowly, with stock they stole from your account and more from their own accounts.

Slick, it's better than being in the mob. No wonder the mob has done it's best to weasel in on this pie.

Disclaimer. I do not trade with margin and have no emotional persuasions either way. I buy and sell at my own discretion. I just wanted to mull the situ as I see it.

Have you considered that those firms were executing as agent for clients? Have you considered that those clients were doing nothing more than short covering of structural positions or speculating on a sustained upward move? That would imply that the powers that be see the upside will soon reassert, else they wouldn't be covering.

As for the rest of that yellow dog journalism it belongs in the hysterical class of selling conspiracy theorists a good story. It doesn't matter what somebody with two cents does. They don't determine market direction. It is the public which sets price at the margin which does, and the public is far from over with their fun and games with stocks on the up side.
