Doesn't Teledesic make DDEV obsolete before it gets started?

I own DDEV, and I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong....

Teledesic May Be Launching New Plan

By Meg McGinity, Inter@ctive Week
April 30, 2000 10:37 PM ET

Rumors have been swirling in recent weeks that Teledesic, the global satellite project backed by two of the communications industry's richest players, is undergoing a major transformation.

The industry is awash with talk that the $9 billion broadband satellite project has hit the wall. Teledesic, dubbed the "Internet in the Sky" and backed by Craig McCaw and Bill Gates, is still working out its constellation design. The company said it is looking for a more economical way to deliver broadband services globally, and has cut an unknown number of satellites from its initially planned constellation of 288 orbiters.

Teledesic officials confirmed there will be changes in the design, but did not offer specific details. It now looks like the company will rely on the infrastructure of ICO Global Communications, a global mobile satellite firm that filed for Chapter 11 in August 1999. McCaw, ICO's chief investor, expects the company will come out of bankruptcy on May 15. After that date, Teledesic anticipates making announcements on the development of both ICO, which had planned to launch service in 2001, and Teledesic.

From the 10Q filed today -- exciting! We may know soon whether this "eagle" can fly.

OT: are you still holding on to STKR? When I checked earlier today, it's listing had become effective, and its price seemed to soar as a result.

a) On May 10, 2000, EagleView's New Jersey array tower was connected to the local loop maintained by BellAtlantic for T-3 Internet service. The final connection, between the local loop and the Internet backbone access to be provided by MCIWorldCom, should be completed within days. T-3 service is required in order to provide the full range of intended Internet services to multiple prospective subscribers in the New York City area. Given this imminent final connection, commercial operations are expected to begin within weeks.

Oooo-eee! Down 40% today, and down 90% from its high this year -- and on no news.

Not encouraging for a company supposedly just about to launch its product (with what fanfare?) and to consummate the purchase of a teleport.
