game of "drop the bid on no volume" so they could accumulate more for themselves on the cheap.

The public sets the B/A by their entries in the "book". The MM receives the public orders and posts the best of them. What you claim is expressly forbidden and completely reviewable. No MM does that. Why do you believe they do? Please don't say because you see it. If you do, then you don't know what you're seeing.

It is critical to be objective about the views you hold. Why do you think the MM knows what is cheap? The only way MMs can buy as principal is if the public forces them to do so by entering market orders to sell outside a certain distance to where the public next orders are booked. This is called providing price continuity. Most of the time the MM doesn't want to do this, but they have to because that's what the rules require. Meanwhile you think the MM is trying to do this. If you want to make valid comments about something, why not learn about it first. Otherwise you're just shooting your mouth off like another angry SI patzer.
