Unfortunately, often true. Anglogold and other majors have held up better than many mid-caps and juniors, however.

I was just reading my Kinross Gold annual report and in the footnotes was reminded they paid about $340M for AMAX Gold on June 1, 1998. It made sense at the time, but now the whole company has a market cap of only $460M (was almost $1 billion at one time)
