Dopers are like drinkers. There are teetotalers. There are folks who have tried it and don't care to go back (this is imo the biggest part of the smart category - understand what the temptation is, then be satisfied to avoid it.) There are folks who have residual Vicodin or Percocet from prescriptions and will once in a great while use a tab or two for recreational purposes.
I will concede that using heroin or other injected narcotics recreationally is a slippery slope. But not all narcotics are heroin, and not all narcotic users are regular. It's possible to be an occasional doper and be 100% upstanding legal; never having made contact with a pusher (or a more pusherlike presence than the Sav-Rite pharmacist).
Just like drinkers come in all ranges from communion only thank you - to sloppy street drunks.
