Michael, I was referring to a speech given by Fisher Black in the mid 80's. You may want to check the book Capital Ideas (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0029030129/o/qid=955030152/sr=2-1/104-9309026-3767664) to find a reference to that speech. What is this thing about Pope, anyway? I see that you haven't replied in the other thread, where we were having a nice chat about competent and incompetent building contractors (and money managers). ;-) -BGR.
