regarding "If levy is reading this, "stretchy" is a technical term that I'll
explain to you later via PM"

I know about that term because my speedos are made of that stuff.

Also om my mac the home page is the first page that has ever fit properly ....thank you for catering to me....that is a smart move..

I know I know I know....will you pick on me...I have had my hand raised here a long time. Is the new SI homepage the size it is so it can replace the current info under money on the new go2net homepage and leave room for that other garbage on the left?

Fair enough Bryan, your grasshopper eagerly awaits the new and improved homepage. :-)

It does look better in the middle than margined to the left. I would suggest the adds on the right. With (maybe) a custom weather spot on the left.

Different subject....I have another "Think Tank" suggestion. Or maybe it's just an improvement suggestion. First a little background.

Investors love to get news on their companies stock. Not only do they want official "company news releases", but they want to read every article written on the web pertaining to the company. (At least ones from reputable places like CNET, ZDNET etc.) Nearly every thread is filled with links to articles written around the web. So it's clearly a "customer desire". Now, let's take an example and look at SI's news feed on Intel.
siliconinvestor.com

Not bad, but certainly not meeting all the needs of SI participants in the news realm. Therefore, we have a gap between customer desires and current reality. So, how do we bridge this gap?

The other day while surfing the web, I ran across this site.
webmaster.moreover.com

It looked interesting so I signed up for the service. They search 1500 locations for news around the web on specific companies. And they do it for free. I decided to make my own page, tailored to my news needs.. Here's an example. (using Intel once again)
geocities.com
And another using Motorola. Notice how the industry news on the right and left is tailored toward the specific company.
geocities.com

Now, just imagine if you got those SI engineering wizards together and created a page similar to this for every company on SI! I am sure you could design a much better page than I have, then you could could entitle it. "Web Article News" or something like that.

I know, a big challenge, but I believe it would add real value to SI.

Better yet, perhaps you could partner with moreover.com, or create your own service similar to theirs. Either way, it's an idea worth pursuing IMHO.

Best, Michael

Bryan a wise person once told me that ones first impression is usually correct

an equally wise philosopher told me that it is easy for a geek to pull the wool over a business major's eyes especially if they don't know how to speak geek and they happen to be a nice guy

Now I will stop with the metaphors and tell you it just happens that the SI homepage on my mac fits the entire screen and I like it much better than the squeezed version.....it really doesn't look spread out at all....here is what I think happened....the geeks screwed up and they didn't want to fix it or get in trouble and they fed you a line and the spread out version looks wrong cause it wasn't made to fit that size...why it happens to look so perfect on my mac remains unknown

Bryan, its time I teach you a little geek; its known as GAFF

Chances are the geek who did the programing for the SI homepage belongs to an extremist group known as the "Geek Apple Freedom Fighters" (GAFF). This group strongly believes, as I do, that the apple operating system is superior to others and that it is entirely unjust that MAS OS does not have its rightful place in the world. Furthermore this group believes it is unjust that they always get left out with new products such as the Go2Net Communicator. To rectify this wrong GAFF has taken matters into their own hands. GAFF members mean business and are willing to engage in subversive activities to meet their goals. I would be very suspicious that such a member has infiltrated your ranks and secretly programmed the SI homepage to fit macs and let pc people know what its like, first hand, not to have it quite right. I do not have any idea from where their financial support is derived. Although I am a supporter of their movement I can assure you I would never condone such activities. On this note would you please get the Go2Net Communicator working for the Mac as soon as possible. Do you understand me.

Bryan, I have come up with another crazy "Think Tank" idea...

We all want SI to be wildly successful and continuous improve in the future. So, what are the potential constraints which will prevent us from achieving that goal? Obviously, management and web development talent is going to play a major role. Therefore, from the customer point of view, how can we help you keep this management and web talent?

Talent costs money pure and simple. And we want our web developers and managers to be the BEST paid in the industry so they will stay at GNET working for our selfish desires on the SI site. :-)

SI generates income through pay memberships and also through click through's of banners on the site.

I THEREFORE PROCLAIM EVERY 20TH DAY OF THE MONTH AS SI BANNER CLICK DAY!

LET'S ALL CLICK AWAY ON THE 20TH DAY OF EVERY MONTH AND GENERATE HUGE BUCKS FOR SI AND GNET!!!!!

Michael
