Good point, Julie. Perhaps we should look more carefully at ways of playing a buy and hold strategy that DOES work. . . covered calls, shorting as a hedge against long positions to lock in gains, seasonal rotation, etc.

Why play into their hands?

If they WANT us to be traders or force us to be traders instead of investors. . . then it can't be good for us in the long run. . . so we should examine alternatives.
