This is true--but theoretically if that fellow was facing a margin call, perhaps just because he bought tons of ELON on margin???, anyway I don't know his status, but sometimes it is not possible to sell puts to get out of margin. But if you have a lot of stock, you can sell cc no matter what. And the main point is to get out of margin and wait for a recovery and save at least some of your $. This is hearsay for me as I've never been in such a situation. I just feel sorry for the guy.
