Synergy Reports its CPJ Heavy Oil Pilot Unit Operational

CALGARY, Alberta, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Synergy Technologies Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: OILS - news) today announced that its half barrel per day CPJ heavy oil upgrading pilot unit is operational. The CPJ inventor, Dr. Pierre Jorgenson, was on site in Calgary to monitor and assist during initial operation of the unit.

The CPJ process is expected to prove a unique, low cost route to upgrading lower crude oils of 7 to 15 API gravity to more valuable and readily marketable crudes of 30 plus API gravity. The CPJ process is believed to offer up to a 70% savings over all competing heavy to light oil conversion processes.

API gravity is a measure of the market value of crude oil. Crudes of API gravity of 20 and under are generally defined as heavy oils, while crudes of API of 30 and over are generally defined as light oils. 30 plus gravity crude oils generally sell for $24 to $28 per barrel, while heavy oils currently sell for about $17 to $19.

``We are very excited about reaching this milestone,' said Synergy director, Jacqueline Danforth. ``We expect that subsequent results will confirm that the CPJ process represents a major breakthrough in low-cost conversion of heavy to more valuable crude oils.'

The world market for such a process, said Ms. Danforth, could be in the millions of barrels per day.

Testing of heavy oil samples from several important Alberta-based oil companies in Synergy's CPJ upgrading pilot unit is expected to begin in early May 2000.

Synergy Technologies Corporation is a research and development company with a focus on bringing new, energy-related technologies to market.
