that_crazy_doug,

> I think the insane part is price target from 56 to 58. How can you set a $58 price target, and then issue a buy on the stock when the stock is trading in the 70s. Either you think it's going to 58 and you should have a strong sell or sell, or the price target should be at least above 70.

I vaguely remember reading about Tad's downgrade from strong buy to buy many weeks ago - when AMD shares were trading at low fifties. I believe it was posted here. I also believe the highest estimate that you see in the Yahoo - analysts' consensus table was by Tad.

I just remembered receiving an email from Boris Markov who posts on JCs message board - here it is:

Subject: Yahoo research??

Hello Goutama

1) On the Yahoo Research board AMD lost a "strong buy" but didn't get a
downgrade anywhere. Did we loose a coverage or is yahoo buggy?

2) In the EPS estimation by analysts, the max EPS used to be .72 (or
.74?). Now its down to about 0.54$. Once I read that the former .72$
max number were by Tad LaFountain. Did he downscale his estimations?
That would be a bad sign, cause he (and Dan Niles) tends to be quite
accurate. And Niles wasn't so positive about AMD lately.

Hm, overoptimism is a long time companion among AMD investors, I
remember. I'm including myself in this, have to say.

Best wishes from Switzerland, Boris

I have not seen Tad's report so can't comment on the details. However, let me say that Tad's system can be eccentric at times.

Tad typically has a very rational explanation to go with his reports - does not necessarily mean other rational people will agree with it ;-)
