IBM dropped to 45 (11.25 adjusting for splits) in 1992 shortly after Lou Gerstner came in. Root cause was failure to change products after networked PC's killed the terminal connected computer business. People were calling for company to be broken up into smaller business groups. Gerstner held on. Laid off over 200,000 employees and gradually shifted focus to Client/Server. Big, locked in, main frame customers largely keep the company afloat.
