American Selects Dell as Supplier for Employee Computer Initiative

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines and American Eagle announced today that Dell Computer Corp. has been selected to provide the computers as American gears up to offer subsidized home computers and Internet access to its 100,000 employees.

"We're delighted to offer the quality and customer service excellence of Dell to our employees and their families," said Thomas J. Kiernan, senior vice president of Human Resources for American.

American plans to spend at least $15 million a year during the next three years to subsidize the cost of the computers, printers and Internet/IntrAAnet access to employees. The first computers are expected to begin arriving at employees' homes this summer. An Internet Service Provider will be named at a later date.

The American Airlines/American Eagle standard home Personal Computer package includes a Dimension(TM) L computer with a 500 MHz Celeron(TM) processor, 64MB of memory, 4.3GB hard drive, 56K modem, 15" monitor (13.8" viewable area), CD-ROM 40x max, floppy drive, Harmon Kardon speakers, an HP DeskJet
610CL color printer, three years Next Business Day on-site parts and labor service, and three years Internet access. A broad range of options and upgrades also will be available at discounted prices for employees.

"We looked at many computer suppliers and Internet service providers," Kiernan said. "Dell's reputation for quality and exceptional customer service will be an outstanding fit for our employees. This is a wonderful opportunity for American to use its buying power and technology leadership
skills to benefit our employees and their families, and we're delighted to be in a position to make this very positive program available to our people."

"We welcome this new opportunity to help American and its employees move online and leverage the power of the Internet," said Brian Wood, vice president and general manager of Dell's Enterprise segment. "Dell's Employee
Purchase Plan program is a natural extension of our direct model, providing end-to-end solutions for our customers and their employees, while maintaining a single point of contact and accountability and delivering a superior
customer experience."

American Airlines is one of the largest scheduled passenger airlines in the world, providing 2,400 daily departures to destinations throughout North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific. American Eagle provides connecting turboprop and regional jet service at American's
hubs and other high-traffic cities to markets throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
