Those statistics don't account for users who aren't "problems" and therefore aren't tracked statistically AND they can't factor out the effects of the criminal culture on the whole drug use equation.

Everyone I know drinks, for example, but very few people appear to have problems with alcohol. I think the same can be said of marijuana- I never knew anyone who had their life ruined by it. I have knowledge from my own experience of people killed by alcohol in car wrecks; I have knowledge from my own experience of people killed by lung cancer presumably resulting from ciggarettes; I don't know ANYONE who was killed by drugs; I don't know anyone who didn't get a good grade because of drugs; I don't know anyone who lost a spouse because of drugs- I really don't and I've known LOTS of really intelligent high functioning people who smoke marijuana recreationally. I've known lots of brilliant people who were in to mushrooms and LSD. didn't seem to hurt them a bit. That's my experience.

brees, my previous posting to you is from personal observation. I agree with X wholeheartedly here because of what I have observed as well as political conviction.

>You, however, seem to be sincerely claiming there is no problem.<
I disagree. X is adult enough in my experience to know that drugs have problems associated with them. But to say the drugs bring *nothing but* problems is controversial. It is by no means established fact, your claims notwithstanding. Nobody here, not me, not X, would claim drugs are not dangerous. Butjust because something is dangerous is insufficient reason to ban it. Prohibition is an extreme and illiberal measure imo - be it of cars or guns or condoms or intoxicants.
