Thanks ....

I feel better that you concur....

I just feel like a traitor , as I believe in the company, but since they have a "busted" reputation on the street i.e. they are NOT a Cisco, the risk to the downside is tremendous....

I also dislike the sector, (PC's), as if one, like ComPaq "blows" it again, guess what happens to dell since it reports so late ?

I also think that the UniSys "warning" is dangerous, as "maybe" this is a recovery quarter for dell, and they might not miss, but not exceed earlier...

Dell's upside is not so hot, until maybe XMas anyway, so I am taking a calculated risk that they will blow it, in some way, which this analyst meeting sort of indicates today...

I am also in options on this one (leaps), so I could conceivably have lost it all before a January 2001 recovery...

Again, FWIW's, I am probably a contrary indicator <g>

Take care
Jean

last year Dan Niles, ML Flyboy, CIBC Oppenheimer, Kumar and company were all telling us to park our rear or find the door.

this year they're all saying to find your broker and mortgage your house.

this does appear to be different between this year and last...unless, of course, as it was asked on CNBC when Dell was at $35 and Niles said buy..."Niles must be now telling everyone to buy because he wants to dump?"

...what is the same between this year and last is that the same traders are still here predicting doom at the first sign of self induced disbelief (my own included)

Dell executive denies AMD chip-pact talk

NEW YORK, April 6 (Reuters) - A top Dell Computer Corp. (NasdaqNM:DELL - news) executive on Thursday denied Wall
Street speculation that the personal computer maker was in talks to cement a major microprocessor supply deal with Advanced
Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - news).

``That's not true,' Dell Vice Chairman Kevin Rollins told Reuters during Dell's annual meeting with Wall Street analysts.

Rollins was responding to speculation by a Wall Street analyst that Dell was ``in serious supply discussions' with AMD, a distant
No. 2 to Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) in the market to supply semiconductors to makers of personal computers.

Dell, the world's No. 2 personal computer maker, is Intel's top customer, and it is the only major computer maker not to use AMD processors in its machines.

Salomon Smith Barney analyst Jonathan Joseph said in a research note Thursday that Dell was moving forward with developing a consumer-oriented system based
on AMD's new Athlon high-speed chip, perhaps as soon as May or June.

But Rollins said the speculation was not true.

``There's no change in direction,' Rollins said. ``We meet with AMD every month. We've been pretty consistent over five years telling analysts the same thing. This
comes up at every meeting, but there is no news, no announcement.'
