the "text book " definition is as you stated, fully covered by a short position....i added that clarification in a separate post to lof....if you are cash secured, in essence you have no margin worries, which equates to being covered or insured against a swift market downturn....

In fact, some brokerages (not all) will allow the selling of fully cash-covered puts in an IRA account.

I have sent e-mail inquiries about this to Schwab, Fido, & Ameritrade ... where my accounts are ... awaiting replies. Would you please provide the names of brokerages you know that provide this service.
