"News like that (Dell coming aboard) will more likely happen when (if?) Dell is ready to introduce the machines. Announcement on AMD's earnings release day does not do anything for Dell."

True, but there are two parties to such a deal. It would mean quite a bit for AMD and given the criticism Dell has subjected AMD to in the past, the least Dell can do is go along with what is in AMD's interests. It is quite common for companies to announce their biggest quarterly deals on the date of positive earnings to maximize publicity. I also think there is strong likelihood AMD will announce a stock split on 4/12. And if NiceGuy's Year 2000 profit projections hold up we'll have a second stock split announced upon the release of 4Q 2000 earnings.
