Re: "Thursday, April 6, 2000 - 1:45:52 AM
Some interesting news bits from Ctech Taiwan , confirming some of the rumors we have earlier heard:

Spitfire and Thunderbird will debut at the end of April and May respectively Spitfire will start at 550 Mhz
VIA has been shipping 300,000 to 400,000 KX133 chipsets per month for the past two months AMD expects to ship 2.5 million Athlon processors in Q2 2000 Socket-A's companion chipset from VIA, KZ133, will go into mass production in May The integrated KM133 chipset, which incorparates Savage4, will enter the market around July or August"

Comment: Sounds like Q2 should once again bring in record revenues and record eps...making it 3 successive record breaking quarters as far as I can determine...With blended ASP's rising throughout Y2000 and Athy volumes increasing, it just may not be too far-fetched to be considering the possibility of, come Y2000 year end, 5 successive record breaking quarters for AMD! Dan 3, DRBES, chic hearne, I'm starting to appreciate your best case AMD price forecasts for December 31, 2000!

great news if true

Spitfire will start at 550 Mhz

Right where the K6-2 ends. I expect the TOP speed offered by AMD will be 100 MHz higher than Intel's fastest available Celumine, and they will maintain that 100 MHz no matter what Intel does.

KX-133 is a good ramp. The AMD goal makes the April/May dates more believable, because AMD could never sell 2.5M Athlon in Q2 without some Spitfires and TBirds.

Socket-A's companion chipset from VIA, KZ133, will go into mass production in May

I believe the Spitfire and TBird will work fine with the "old" KX133. The KZ133 is a "low end," cheaper chipset, so it isn't necessary for intro of either part.

The integrated KM133 chipset, which incorparates Savage4, will enter the market around July or August

KM133's 3D should be a vast improvement over Timna, but Timna will probably beat it to market by a month or two.
