Although hallucinogens have been used in the treatment of mental illness, there are enough suggestions that people who are schizophrenic may find their symptoms worsening that I don't think that I could make such an argument.

That is a real safety issue. People who have latent or developed manic (bipolar) tendencies are strongly contraindicated from f>>king with psychedelics or any other central stimulants.
