Certainly, it does seem hard to believe that things are really THAT bad in the video game industry.

This is from my 3/10 post.
The entry of Microsoft into game-machine making is a sign that the electronic-games industry has come of age. Last year sales hit $6.9 billion, just shy of movie box-office receipts of $7.3 billion. And the industry is expected to outpace other types of entertainment as a new generation of consoles takes off.

The introduction of so many new consoles will increase R&D to develop new games for them. Major players will spend heavily to get there first with new and respun versions of existing hits.

THQ has some development work to do, but remember they are not solely dependent on their own games for profits. They have spent funds getting more in-house development. So far we have not seen significant results. My guess and hope is that they are working hard to really put forth a blockbuster web presence.

While Smackdown appears to be selling well, there does seem to be early significant price reductions already in place for it -- $15.95ea per my recent post. Profits margins will suffer. Maybe this "new pricing" structure was developed to keep kids buying while more powerful consoles wait in the wings for en-mass deployment.

Thanks Kory for your informative posts.
