<< Why would we expect the stock to go up before earnings? >>

I don't see any overriding reason why it should go up besides hype or news that we don't know about. I would think after the tremendous upswing over the past few days we'd see some downward pressure. On the otherhand, we moved up on very large volume, so we should have a pretty good base.

I would think after earnings we might see some big upswing again if earnings still surprise on the upside. I was thinking of buying some out of the money calls a couple of days before earnings, but I'm hoping the prices drop a bit before than.

Sell 1/2 or all in the hours before the earnings. I think it is 4/12 after the market. Of course, you and I both have the same option, we are in competition to the door. <G>

Scumbria....re:Why would we expect the stock to go up before earnings?

Sorry to answer with a question, but why would we go down?
Well we could go down if we get another ugly market day like Tuesday. Hope that doesn't happen.

To tell you the truth, I think AMD has suddenly become high profile the last few days. The stock has gone from 51 to 72 in a matter of days (enough to make anyone worry). I have never seen so many mentions on CNBC. In fact I have probably heard more mentions on that station for the last couple of days than in the previous two months. With the market in corrective mode, the momentum players and day traders have probably climbed on board because it is one of the few stocks hitting all-time highs. Don't know if I want to be at their mercy. This is probably close if not the top two consecutive volume days for this stock in a long time.
Why will it go higher? I don't know that answer, I'm just hoping that it will.
