Further, I would suggest that teen pregnancy and birth are/may be down because of abstinence chic rather than condom classes.

From what I can tell, it's a function of both, which is fine by me. Abstinence is clearly the safest way to go, both from the practical standpoint of pregnancy and from the emotional development and moral standpoints. However, I think that it is foolish to assume that every teenager will remain a virgin

When my sister went away to college, I marched her to the gynecologist and made sure that she had a prescription for birth control pills as well as a supply of condoms. She was a virgin at the time. What I told her was, "You do not know what you will encounter in life. It is better to be prepared for the possibility that you will find yourself in a situation where sex will seem wise. If you never use them, it is your choice, but you do not want to be in a position of worry because you were not prepared."
