The active principle in cannabis is quite greasy. Oils are good solvents. Alcohol needs to be QUITE strong to effectively extract it.
Ingested, cannabis has a pretty slow onset. It's possible to go a little wild on the brownies, then realize later that the chair really really is your friend. <g>
