Dennis, don't forget that the market is already prepared for a pretty strong number. i believe the focus will be on wage growth, as that is what is most likely to draw the Fed's attention. judging from recent jobs data and the market's reaction to them i would think that the prime fear is not of inflation...in fact there may be an undercurrent of deflationary fears that is just not readily apparent right now because it is scarcely talked about.
i think the market 'knows' that the current upturn in inflation is only cyclical in nature and thus not to be trusted entirely. this view would be reinforced if another set of strong data leads to a rally.
that said, i think it is eminently prudent to employ defensive measures right now...we're unlikely to be out of the woods as it were.
