uh, sorry about that, I'll try an' watch myself better. <gg> I think I know where Steve is coming from. He doesn't buy into the victimless crap, nor does he buy into the overblown victimhood crap we've been bombarded with, either. In today's media-driven society I suggest it's very hard to get the straight facts on many of the contentious issues facing politicians and concerned voters these days. There's a lot of extreme stuff being presented for our consumption: the PC Left that wants to drown us all in a sea of being afraid to have any opinion, the religious right that would gladly forfeit the Constitution in the pursuit of its own social Zion, the freemarketeers who valuate undeveloped land at zero and thus are assisting the developing eco-crisis... how to balance these into a coherent social policy that at once respects the individual and stresses the importance of community... I don't know. I despair. I guess that when I run into one of these thorny issues, my default is libertarian. I look to see who is looking out for the rights of the individual. That's why I get scared when I hear any of the Kennedys invoked - if brother Ted is any indication, they would gut the Bill of Rights in a hot second "in the name of the children". (Witness his execrable record on the 2nd Amendment.) There's an awful lot of myth and propaganda being disguised and paraded as established fact. I see the greatest value of this forum as being a place where we can challenge each other's pet theories and beliefs while always respecting the person voicing them. If I have failed this standars, I apologize. More importantly, if i have failed this standard and the charge stands the logic test - somebody TELL ME. Thanks and ,uh, rant mode off.
