otoh, there are no junk mailers or phone solicitors valued at 90 billion dollars either. it is not so much a question of how successful YHOO is imo. they ARE comparatively successful, certainly one of the better nutz cos. the question is if that is worth $90 bn.
think about what Sam Zell said...how much would it cost to duplicate YHOO? answer: far less than what the market is currently valuing the stock at. since there are practically no barriers to entry in this biz, it is far from certain that YHOO will really be the long term winner in this space. yes, it looks that way NOW. it could be looking completely different a few years from now.
as ad blockers are getting more popular, and click through rates keep plunging, all ad-based web business models are endangered.
still YHOO remains the cream of the crop, for now. that says something about the crop i believe...
