"We chose Michael Dell because we feel he's one of the greatest entrepreneurial
role models who exists, an industry icon par excellence," says Mecklenburg. "We wanted someone who could give such a fantastic entrepreneurial perspective on
what it takes to become Michael Dell, and how he runs his business in the
massive ups and downs of the technology market right now."

Hi Kemble! Re: "The audacity!!! They didn't invite Al Gore??? I mean he invented the internet now didn't he?"

Shimon Peres to Keynote Red Herring's Venture 2000

Source: PR Newswire
SAN FRANCISCO, Apr 7, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- In a sign that the
Internet's influence has reached into the political realm, 1994 Nobel Peace
Prize Laureate Shimon Peres will give the final keynote address at Red Herring's
Venture 2000 conference on May 3. The event, being held at the Resort at Squaw
Creek in Lake Tahoe, Calif., runs April 30 to May 3. The former Israeli prime
minister, who currently runs the Peres Center for Peace
(http://www.peres-center.org), will address an audience of high-level business
executives on how the Internet and new technologies have changed the role of the
nation-state.

"Peres believes strongly that the Internet and related technologies are not
usurping but very quickly becoming the global and cross-border currency," says
John Mecklenburg, editor of events at Red Herring Communications. "Where we used
to depend on political means to achieve our ends, now it's quite obvious that
the Internet is binding us in ways politics could never achieve. As a result,
it's very important to understand the impact and ramifications of this
entrepreneurial capitalism being exported to other world markets."

Kicking off the three-day event, Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell Computer
Corporation, will deliver the opening keynote on Monday, May 1. His topic:
entrepreneurial vision, the motivating force that steered his company from an
outfit that sold computers out of a University of Texas dorm room into one of
the most powerful companies of the new economy, selling $40 million worth of
computers online every day.

"We chose Michael Dell because we feel he's one of the greatest entrepreneurial
role models who exists, an industry icon par excellence," says Mecklenburg. "We
wanted someone who could give such a fantastic entrepreneurial perspective on
what it takes to become Michael Dell, and how he runs his business in the
massive ups and downs of the technology market right now."

Other confirmed speakers include Andrew Filipowski, founder and CEO, Divine
InterVentures; Bill Elkus, senior managing director, Idealab Capital Partners;
Jonathan D. Callaghan, general partner, @Ventures; Mohanbir Sawhney, McCormick
Tribune professor of electronic commerce and technology, Kellogg Graduate School
of Management; and Stephen Roach, chief economist, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.

Now in its second year, the invitation-only executive conference for industry
leaders at the "CxO" (CEO, CFO, and CIO) or vice president level is based around
the top 50 companies highlighted in the June issue of Red Herring magazine. More
than 700 attendees are confirmed for the event. Over the course of the event,
the 50 companies, as well as the magazine's "Ten Companies to Watch," will
showcase themselves to the influential audience.

A series of panels and roundtable discussions will explore four pertinent
technology topics:

-- the benefits and pitfalls of EcoNets, companies which incubate
start-ups at a startling rate

-- possible business models for mobile commerce through cell phones and
hand-held computing devices

-- the emerging investment opportunities in Europe, Latin America and Asia

-- the outlook for venture capital in the coming months

Mecklenburg says Venture 2000 is so successful because its speakers address the
toughest and most appreciative audience: their peers. "For the most part, the
high-level executives, entrepreneurs and financiers who will be speaking are on
the same level as the attendees, and they're all concerned with how to move
their business forward by discussing global business strategy and new
technology. It's one of the most relevant events they'll attend this year."
