On the subject of the shortfall in Windchill, I think that you are being a bit generous, JDN, when you say "a little under what was estimated." Although Windchill revenues will be up more than 230% on a year-over-year basis, the company preannounced that they were about $40 million--a substantial shortfall from the earlier guidance of $57 million for the March quarter.

hi JDN
it's a pleasure meeting with you elsewhere than on intel's thread ...

someone advised me to get up to speed. I am not sure i am,
but at least i formed a few more ideas :

- much of the decline is accounted for by "lack of communication". (to Goldman Sachs ? who else?) I know what that means since the time i was long in Ascend... from $50 to the teens in a few months, FOR THE VERY SAME REASON, but, mind you, with excellent credentials that warranted further investments. This is also the ultimate question I have on PMTC.

- on the other hand i would not be very impressed by technology alone. I see on this thread concerns about their sales force, windchill and the business model. At the time I was in the CAD/CAM business there was no internet so I can't really tell the difference.
Obviously EDM is the fast growing chunk of MCAD and as i remember from a gartner's research note it still (2 years ago) needed to get recognition in large enterprise environments. So wc may be critical; how are others faring, e.g. dassault, etc.

- 2 years ago PMTC went through a decline of a magnitude that is comparable to the present one. Perhaps it was due to over-exposure to the far east markets ? If so the company proved they had the resources and the will to deal with extreme conditions. Is it the same company NOW ? That would again be a good reason to buy in at these prices.

Thanks again.
