good idea.. ETRADE SHOULD DO THIS: send out alerts saying:

"Our records indicate you recieved shares of the XXXX IPO on 4/06/00. It is now acceptable to sell these shares without being penalized for flipping. Go ahead and sell them. Sure it would be a loss, but that's not our fault. You were stupid enough to hold onto them and watch that 400% gain disappear. Oh by the way, we can't guarantee that if you sell these shares that you won't be restricted from future IPOs... but we will say that we hope you aren't. Sometimes our IPO software just does what it wants, but there's a decent chance you'll still get another IPO if you do take the loss and sell today. If you want another opinion on the matter, call an Etrade rep and verify your account status after you sell. However, we cannot guarantee that the Etrade rep you speak with will agree with what you are reading in this alert. In fact, we can't even guarantee that the Etrade rep
will admit that we ever sent you this alert. Thank you for using Etrade"
