Why can we walk in to a classroom where the teacher is using the same methods of classroom management and discipline as other teachers in the building who have the same students in different periods; yet we see the students in one classroom are unruly and in the other classroom they are applying themselves seriously to learning tasks?

I did not really overlook this part of your posting. It was not central to the parts of the issue that I sought to address. More important, I have not had this experience so that my comments must be pure conjecture.

Generally, accepting the premise that the methods are the same, it is a difference in authority. One teacher manages to gain respect in the eyes of the students, another does not......
