RESEARCH ALERT - Merrill recommends buying Sanmina
NEW YORK, April 11 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch analyst Jerry Labowitz said Tuesday he recommended buying shares of electronics contract manufacturer Sanmina Corp. (NasdaqNM:SANM - news) and set a fiscal 2000 earnings estimate at $1.30 per share.

-- shares of Sanmina were off 13/16 trading at 56 on the Nasdaq stock market.

-- Labowitz said after a 15 percent decline in Samina's stockon Monday, shares are selling at around a 10 percent discount to Merrill's electronics manufacturing services.

-- said no news or corporate developments triggered the decline in Sanmina's stock Monday.

-- said his 12-month price target of $80 is based on a price to earnings ration of 57 times his calendar 2000 estimate of $1.39 per share.

-- said he believes the company will report better than expected second quarter results on April 17, making this pullback a good buying opportunity.

-- said he projects fiscal 2000 midpoint earnings at $1.30 per share on revenues of almost $2 billion, and fiscal 2001 midpoint earnings of $1.70 per share on revenues of $2.8 billion.
