I don't think we need tinkers or tailors. We recycle our broken pots, and buy our clothes ready made from Asia. I was watching a race here the other day. It was electric cars built entirely by high school students -- the winners were from the Big Island, Hawaii. It took theory and craftsmanship to design those cars. It even took calculus and physics for those kids to build efficient winning cars, but they also had to learn how to shape metal, weld, and solder. The ideal way to learn science, technology, and craftsmanship. If we needed them to, these kids could reconstruct our technological civilization from scratch. I think they are getting a great education.
