Ben - I agree with your thoughts re: Linux. I merely posted the article as "information".

Hi Ben,

A technical question: how fat is embedded LINUX compared to VxWorks?

About the same fat.

WRS is the leader in the high end embedded development /software category - this is where the big $$$ are.
.....
It's the large corporations which demand reliability, SUPPORT, fast time to market.

Fidler would not agree with you on this. WRS is ever going after the low-royalty-high-volume markets. Some of these products are consumer grade, which has higher requirements for features than reliability. This is why Intel, TiVo, and AOL choose Linux. By the way, VxWorks is not as reliable as you would think. Some people would prefer Linux over VxWorks, because they can debug and customize it.

I think there is now a divergence between those techs which have no proven record and profits and those with consistent growth.

A new valuation model is coming out for the money loosing dotcoms. A lot of dotcoms will be washed out. Others will continue to fly high. The buzz word is B2B.

Regards,

Khan

Do you know of specific reasonably priced embedded products (for the home) available and where one could view them?
