I agree with your assessment at the end of your post. I'm less sure about the ability of ARBA and CMRC to compete with (about which you expressed no opinion) ORCL, since I don't know that these are like SEBL (that is, so tightly run and with such substantial intellectual capital).

I thought that the guy who said that ORCL didn't kill the database competition was pretty funny. What does it mean to say that a market kills something instead of a competitor? That the competitor didn't personally go out and shoot key employees of the firm that lost? I'd say the market killed OODB companies (by there never being a market), but it's got to be some combination of the loser's and the winner's efforts when there is a market. Maybe this guy wanted to say that ORCL didn't win and that it was just that SYBS and IFMX lost? If so, he needs speech therapy. Otherwise he needs a course in logic and I hope he (or she) isn't managing any of my money.
