Hello nicegy767,

Re Willy is not a serious threat if it cannot be produced in meaningful quantities, and, as far as I can ascertain, meaningful production quantities of Willy are still very much pie in the sky...even assuming Willy does overcome the very significant production hurdle, which is certainly not a given, imho, there is no guarantee that Willy will be competitive (on an all-in price/performance basis including cost of memory) with Athy offerings by that time...Athy/Willy comparisons remind me of childhood advice offered me...A bird (Athy) in hand is worth (at least) two (Willys) in the bush...

Wasn't there another poster on this board that used the term foils for such "very much pie in the sky" products? Now who was that?

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan

niceguy,

Willy showed a very high degree of functionality at first silicon. It would be a serious mistake as an investor to discount the threat for next year. AMD will no longer enjoy the MHz advantage that has driven the stock this year.

It will be interesting to see how this story plays out, but AMD needs to be extremely aggressive to stay competitive long term.

niceguy,

With all due respect, I find this a rather simplistic response to Scumbria's post....and somewhat in denial.

There is no question that Willamette presents a serious threat and I have yet to see AMD develop a solid counteroffensive........I am hoping that T-bird may be it....we will see.
