Uncle Frank,

And while I haven't the time this morning to calculate it, the components don't appear to be precisely weighted by market cap as is QQQ.

From my recent reading up on QQQ I believe that they are not weighted strictly by market cap. Instead, a proprietary algorithm is used which reduces the large cap weightings and increases the small cap weightings. However, after all is said in done, they are still weighted in order of market cap.

On a separate QQQ related note, I understand that they generally don?t have to sell stock shares to cover redemptions so this is not a cause of distributed cap gains. Also, any dividends paid by the 100 companies tend to be swallowed up by the investment trust management fees so there is little to no income there. Each December the composition of the NASDAQ 100 is reconsidered which leads to some companies being sold out of QQQ and other companies being bought into QQQ.

My question to you is what have been the magnitude of cap gains distributions due to changes in the portfolio makeup?

They're an ML product...that's the catch. Going for one of these is letting someone else do your thinking for you...and that's just the dead opposite of what investing on-line is all about. Why read the book, why follow the thread, why watch our portfolios, why bother with any of this good hard personal effort...if someone else has got your route planned as they see fit and you choose to follow it?

<<I only note 1 Gorilla and 2 Kings out of the 20 BHD components, which is 15% G&Ks>>

well, the Broadband Holders have three from the G&K list and three more from the Watch and Wait list, plus a lot of sympathy plays that should profit nicely from the same tornados. QQQ has more Gs and Ks, strictly speaking, but it has a lot of entirely different stuff as well (including Inutz, godzillas, boxmakers, biotech, and so forth) and its chief gorillas are mature silverbacks. BB's suggestion of Landis' Tech Leaders fund might be the best of the bunch, altho the costs are probably higher. I'm not recommending baskets, mind you, just pointing out that for those who might be inclined to favor such a vehicle--and I can see situations where that might make sense--the BDH is one to consider, at least if one wants exposure to cutting-edge tech going forward.
