Jon,

Agreed. ValueLine is for the Pa&Ma recreational investors whose entire intellectual resources are derived from reading Readers Digest or watching CNBC.

Jon Koplik and Jim Black:

Since you two have apparently already met at the library perhaps my intervention here is redundant. However, I'm just hoping both you gentleman are keeping your smiles screwed squarely in place while you post and read. :>)

Regarding GPS/security function - I'm guessing here but I suspect the G* phone can maintain GPS location without having to use air minutes. In other words, it acquires and keeps track of a satellite in "standby" mode. I mention it for two reasons - one, if I'm correct then the number of users is virtually unlimited and two, of course - it won't sell many minutes of talk time. Probably great for annual/monthly security subscription service, though.

While we've been discussing sources for G* business, I was wondering about the large AMPS installation base in this country. I noted that VOD/GTE had the largest AMPS/cell ratio going. I would assume that AMPS will gradually be replaced. I've run across it (while using G* phone) predominantly in rural areas - usually many miles after cell had given out. I assume it continues its presence in those areas because it is both cheaper per tower, and requires fewer towers than cell. However, wouldn't those same areas be as easily serviced by G*? As the AMPS system is retired, why wouldn't VOD simply let people replace their AMPS/DIGITAL phones with sat/cell phones. Would save VOD a ton in infrastructure build out - they could use some of the savings to discount sat minutes.
